As a person who doesn't
live anywhere near the area, I have never been to Sydenham which made
this investigation all the more interesting. Additionally, I had never been to
Sydenham and also wasn't able to go and be there first-hand to survey people on
their opinions on aircraft noise with my team as well as being able to see just
how much the aircraft noise affects Sydenham. Although I would have preferred
to have gone to Sydenham with my team, they had done an amazing job at
surveying people a number of people and successfully managed to get through to
the people of Sydenham. I've also picked up teamwork skills from working with
my group members: Jennifer, the knowledgeable and helpful local,
Linda, the hardworking and enthusiastic surveyor, and Praveena, the best
at finding media articles and newspaper reports! I think I've learnt a lot about
communities, particularly

This assignment was quite interesting because I had never really taken much notice of Sydenham even though I lived nearby. When we really investigated and talked to the people, it was an eye-opening experience to the insights and opinions of the people who beared with aircraft noises constantly. I thought that the strength of our research was our different abilities and team-work skills. I was so surprised with some of the results we found, especially with the noise map and health impacts! The tally was also another big surprise as it is an astonishing number. I thought the only weakness we had was our frustration at the number of people who ignored us during the survey, however, we still got it finished in the end which felt like an achievement. If I were to do this all over again, I would have approached the surveying a bit differently by thanking excessively for their co-operation.

This assignment really tested my abilities, not only was gathering the primary data difficult because of the uncooperative residents who lived in Sydenham. But after spending a few hours there we were able to get all the survey results and it was a great experience for me and it was lots of fun too. I always knew that the aircraft noise in Sydenham was bad but since I've been there personally I just realised how bad this issue actually was. Our group work was excellent we split up the work equally and it was very fair and we shared the load around helping each other and because i was left with the editing and designing of the website. I believe we all did a really good job and I am even more interested in investigating other suburbs. Overall i believe we all did a great job but faced some difficulties in gathering the primary data.

This assignment was a great experience for me as I really got out of comfort zone. I had only previously been to Sydenham a few times before and when I was there I realized the constant loud planes. This is why I was so interested to investigate this issue in depth, to really understand the impacts of aircraft noise on a community. As a group, we divided the work evenly and although we faced a few miscommunications here and there, it all ended up very well. We have definitely learnt to work well as group over the period. I enjoyed this a lot as it really made us get in the community, ask locals and find information and not one minute of it was boring. I have most definitely learnt from this experience.
